Bicycle Safety for Children
Like many people, you probably received your first bike as a small child. It had training wheels and maybe some bells, whistles and tassels. You could not wait to take it outside and learn to ride it. The majority of the time was spent on how to pedal, brake and stay out of the street.
The person who was trying to keep you safe probably didn't realize the bad habits they were engraving into your brain. Telling you to stay out of the street or riding only on the side walk might be safe while you're learning, but can be very dangerous as you get older and start riding more often. If you can ride your bike faster than someone can walk, you should start unlearning those bad habits.
